weddings and civil ceremonies

'We wanted a stylish, exclusive and unique setting for our special day. Crear delivered everything and more. Thank you.' David and Dylan, London

Crear is fully licensed for weddings and civil partnerships, including the grounds surrounding the house and all the way down to the sandy beach and rugged coast.

If you are planning a small and intimate celebration, the beaches and coastline at Crear provide a dramatic and romantic setting for your ceremony. We would be happy to suggest locations, however, please note that most have limited vehicle access. Take your vows surrounded by sheep, basking seals, swirls of seabirds over head and if you are lucky enough, some otters at play and golden eagles soaring. Caisealrag cottage at Crear is also ideal if you want to escape the pressures of family and friends and we would be happy to act as witnesses if required.

'We wanted a wedding that was unique, personal and had a sense of adventure to it. Crear provided us with the opportunity to experience all of these things on our special day. Thank you very much. Married on the beach!'

relaxed ceremonious surroundings at crear

We can serve you chilled champagne on the beach or on the site of an ancient fort to celebrate. If the weather permits, consider a luxurious picnic or informal BBQ before retiring to Crear to either enjoy an intimate dinner with your immediate house party or ceilidh with up to a hundred family and friends.

If the idea of making the most important promises in your life in the open air appeals, there are a few points you may wish to consider. Regardless of who is conducting your ceremony, it is the reason why your family and friends have gathered together to witness your commitment. With even a slight breeze, it can be difficult for your guests to hear proceedings. If the weather is unkind, they may not appreciate having to walk in the rain dressed in their finery.

At Crear we offer complete flexibility and also understand that legally the registrars will not conduct a ceremony in inclement weather. If numbers permit, we can easily rearrange plans on the day as required. There are no additional charges if you wish to hold your ceremony inside the light filled Crear studio. With a glass wall over looking the Paps of Jura, you can enjoy the great outdoors from the comfort of within. If you are blessed with wonderful weather we will be happy to serve your guests drinks and canapés after the ceremony outside in the grounds.

Your commitment is the reason why you and your guests are here. From our experience, if you are looking to have a civil marriage, you may wish to consider a Humanist Ceremony as an alternative. This is the most important decision of your life and all at Crear have been deeply moved by the humanist ceremonies to date.

Scotland is one of only six countries in the world where Humanist marriage ceremonies are legal (the others are Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway and certain states of the USA). Humanist weddings have the same legal status as civil and religious weddings as long as they are conducted by an HSS Celebrant, who has been authorised by the Registrar General of Scotland. Same sex couples often choose to celebrate their commitment by having a Humanist ceremony, though these are not yet legally recognised.

Most Ministers within the Church of Scotland will also be happy to conduct your ceremony at Crear or outside. The nearest churches to Crear are South Knapdale Parish Church in Achahoish and Kilberry Parish Church.

As we are unable to host both your ceremony and reception at Crear if numbers exceed 70, many couples have chosen South Knapdale Church. Many of your guests will be travelling from Glasgow and this church is on their way to Crear. After your service we would welcome your guests arriving at Crear, allowing you to take a few moments longer on your way back to have photographs taken on the beaches or view points.

West Coast Motors provide an excellent service and would be happy to collect all your guests from B&Bs and guest houses along the road, take them to the church and Crear and safely home again at the end of the night.

To ensure your complete privacy, Crear will apply to Argyll and Bute Council for an exemption order under the Land Reform Act on your behalf if you choose to hold any part of your celebrations outside.
