What ever kind of ceremony you chose to have, the first person to contact regarding all the legal paper work is the local registrar, Shona Brechin. If you have any queries or questions regarding visas etc. she is more than happy to help. If you are planning a last minute commitment, the registrars require three weeks notice, however for non UK passport holders, please allow three months for the relevant paperwork and visas to be in place.

Humanist
Scotland is one of only six countries in the world where Humanist marriage ceremonies are legal (the others are Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway and certain states of the USA). Humanist weddings have the same legal status as civil and religious weddings as long as they are conducted by an HSS Celebrant, who has been authorised by the Registrar General of Scotland. Same sex couples often choose to celebrate their commitment by having a Humanist ceremony, though these are not yet legally recognised.
